In a dystopian 2023, a group of mutants, led by Bishop (Oscar Isaac), are on the run from sentinels, advanced robots designed to hunt and kill mutants. Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) is captured and subjected to an experiment, where his consciousness is sent back in time to his younger body in 1973.
